With summer or post-college jobs on the horizon, you may be wondering how to create a CV which will make you stand out to employers.
Here’s 5 top tips to creating an interesting and successful CV:
- Stand Out
Your CV should show exactly what makes you stand out from other candidates. If you have a passion, skill or interest, make sure that is included. You may think it is irrelevant, but it will show employers your personality and what makes you unique.
- Keep it simple
Keep the font and colours simple in the layout of your CV. This will ensure it is accessible to all employers and you look professional.
- Experience isn’t everything
Be sure to include all work experience you have, including volunteer roles and weekend jobs. However, do not be discouraged if your experience is lacking, show them the key skills you have gained from your course at college and other extra-curricular activities such as clubs and open days.
- Tailor it
Make sure you include key words relevant to the sector you are seeking a job in. If it is retail include key terms such as customer service or teamwork. If its construction demonstrate your knowledge of key tools and project management. The more tailored the CV, the happier the employer.
- Check it
Triple check your CV before handing it to the employer. It is best to get someone else to check it for you as mistakes are easy to miss. A simple mistake may cause an employer to dismiss your application.
Good luck and be yourself, job seeker!
