Here at North Kent College, we have electrical installation courses where learners can advance their understanding of the techniques and practices used within the Electrical and Building Service industries. Here are a few simple electrical tips we would like to share with you.
- Use your power outlets correctly
Try not to overload your power sockets by distributing the devices you have plugged in rather than plugging in multiple devices to a single socket. If a socket is overused, it may overheat and become a problem.
- Consider solar electricity
Solar energy is now more accessible than ever, it is reliable, cheap, and eco-friendly. It may be the perfect way to power your home.Plus you can get monies back by providing electricity back to “the grid” – definitely something worth checking out!
- Are you replacing older appliances and lights?
Appliances and lights age overtime and can become a hazard. If the cords wear and tear, the exposure of wiring can cause great risk. Therefore, take note of how long you are keeping appliances and check the wear of your cords.
- Electricity and water do not mix!
I am sure we are all aware of this simple tip, keep electrical appliances away from any amount of water. We all need to be aware of any water spillages around the house.
- Do not ignore those flickering lights
You may ignore the odd flickering light in your home, maybe even forget it is there. However, it will be flickering for a reason such as a loose connection, so it is best to get a trained electrician to have a look for you.
