Early Years students got an insight into the different learning approaches taken in the industry when six speakers shared their expert knowledge with them recently.
The event took place at North Kent College’s Dartford Campus but was live streamed to Early Years learners at the Tonbridge campus so they could also benefit.
The speakers talked for around 30 minutes each to explain the approach they use to support the learning and development of their children.
- Lynne Tomlinson spoke about the In the Moment learning approach
- Cath Epps - Forest School approach
- Holly Hayward - Home from Home approach
- Diane Frewer – Steiner Theory
- Peter Mitchell – Froebel Theory
- Sheba Ahmed - High Scope approach
Nadja Nsajja, Head of Curriculum - Early Years at North Kent College, explained how it benefitted the students: “Listening to these speakers gave our students a valuable insight into the practical application of the academic knowledge they have gained and will continue to gain. It helped them understand how the theories and concepts they are learning in college translate into actual work situations. It was clear at the end of the day how much they had learnt from the speakers coming in.
If you have a passion to work with children, then an Early Year’s course is the perfect place to start. It can lead to a variety of careers from a nursery nurse to a primary school teacher and more.
North Kent College offers Early Years courses at both our Dartford and Tonbridge campuses. The courses are taught by industry professionals and include real life work placements to give students hands on professional training.
