Life in general can be challenging, especially with greater independence and responsibility college life offers. We provide a wide range of assistance including personalised one-to-one support through our Welfare and Safeguarding Officers, group support sessions for common identified issues, such as anxiety or self-esteem, and a wide range of mental health resources, self-help strategies and activities. We also offer a professional and confidential counselling service and students can self-refer for issues within their personal or college life. If you would like further information, please speak to a member of the Welfare and Safeguarding Team.

Counselling
What is Counselling?
The opportunity to talk about the difficulties you are facing in a safe place, where you can explore freely and openly in a way that is not always possible with friends and family. The counsellor is not there to judge or advise you, but to help you clarify your thoughts and feelings and become more effective at finding your own solutions and coping mechanisms.
Counselling Confidentiality
Our counselling service is a confidential service. What is discussed in assessment and counselling sessions is confidential, including from parents/guardians and academic staff.
However, there are limits to confidentiality and these will be explained to you fully at your first appointment.
Your first appointment
- Assessment and in-depth discussion about what has brought you to counselling
- An opportunity to ask questions about what is offered
- Discuss what you hope to gain from sessions
- Planning future appointments
What happens next?
Once your application for mental health support has been received you will be contacted by a member of the Welfare and Safeguarding Team for further discussion.
