LEVEL 3 MOTION GRAPHICS AND ANIMATION

Paris Lucke studied Level 3 Motion Graphics and Animation at North Kent College from 2014 to 2016. Going into the course with a passion for fine art, design and sculpting, Paris left NKC knowing 3D Animation was the area she wanted to specialise in. This started a 'rollercoaster' of a journey to her current role as a 3D artist at Atlantic Productions.

Here she tells us a bit more about her time at the College, her course and why she recommends studying here!

Why did you choose North Kent College?

The course had what I was looking for at the time without me knowing exactly what that was, it wasn’t tailored to just one type of animation and as a young artist, it gave me important opportunities to learn and explore other types of animation (3D, 2D, stop motion and motion graphics).

I remember going to the NKC open evening, there were pictures of current students’ work on the walls and after talking to the lecturers, I had a gut feeling NKC would be my next step.

What would you say were the best three things about studying at North Kent College?

  1. The course
  2. The people and the relaxed environment
  3. The canteen, haha!

How has North Kent College helped your career?

NKC was the start of my journey as a digital/CGI artist. I joined straight out of secondary school, aged 16, with a passion for fine art, design and sculpting - I had no knowledge of any animation software at this point. I knew I wanted to go digital with my art and learn how to bring it to life, (which is essentially what animation/moving image is). By the end of my two years, I knew 3D animation was the area I wanted to specialise in. The university I graduated from was the one recommended to me by my lecturers.

Where do you now work and what’s next for you?

I am a Junior 3D artist/generalist at Atlantic Productions, sectors include immersive, interactive, film and television. What's next is whatever future releases I work on for Atlantic Productions. Regardless, I’ll be doing the same thing I’ve always done, learning and growing my craft.

What has been your route getting to your current position?

It was a rollercoaster of a route. After leaving NKC, I attended university for three years, did an internship, then a kickstart scheme placement, then I was selected for a couple industry led training opportunities, THEN I found my current role at Atlantic.

Would you recommend studying at the College and why?

Yes, the course is a great starting point for anyone thinking of getting into this vast creative field.

Describe your whole college experience and how it has enabled you to progress.

It was fun and it was my first step in a long journey to getting my dream job.

What would be the piece of advice you would give to someone thinking of coming to college or specifically coming to North Kent College?

Trust your gut and stay true to yourself. If it’s right for you, you’ll know.
