What does the Student Union (SU) do?
An Executive Committee of Students from different course areas run North Kent College Students’ Union (NKCSU). Whether it's to change things within or outside of the classroom, NKCSU listens to the learner views and work with the NKC managers and leaders to ensure their voice is heard in the college. As well as this, they help to organise events throughout the year so other students can enjoy their college experience even more. Our North Kent College Students’ Union has made a positive impact and will continue to do so.
With events happening throughout the year, from charity fundraisers, Freshers’ Fayres, to BBQs and student conferences, there really is something for everyone.
In September, we actively look for students to volunteer to become Executive members. Students that are successful receive a FREE uniform, FREE Trips & Bonus Points on the North Kent College Ambassador scheme. Past students that have been involved with the Union have been able to use the skills gained from their experience to progress further, either working with Student Unions at university, or within the working environment or wider community involvement.

Learner Voice at North Kent College
The Learner Voice at North Kent College has changed! This new aspect of the learner voice replaced the current Class Rep meetings. The changes were made to improve the quality of information collected from the learners; it has democratic hierarchical system based on governmental principles, by electing learner representatives and feeding through information to different levels to be addressed by different levels of staff in accordance with the college structure.
The system allows the students to express their opinion in a more controlled way with the smaller course level concerns or suggestions being dealt with at course level and this is replicated at each level of the organisation with the more strategic level suggestions and opinions being dealt with at the Senior Leadership Team and the Governors.
This allows the Governors to have access to the student body in a controlled environment where the students will be prepared and the Senior Leadership Team and Governors will be able to respond and action plan based on the meetings.

What does Learner Voice Involve?
Learner Voice gives you the chance to participate and influence all aspects of College life. From something quick and easy, such as making a comment on one of the College social networking sites, to being a student representative for your group.
As a student representative you will attend a Learner Voice forum each term with the Executive team and attend a Learner Voice conference in the spring term. The College will always respond to learner opinions, including 'you said, we did' initiatives, student emails and feedback directly from the Student Union and class representatives.
