Today (Friday 8 November) is National STEM Day, the day we come together to celebrate the incredible world of STEM – science, technology, engineering and maths.
Not only are STEM skills an extremely important set of skills to have, and ones that push society forward, but they are also skills that can help you develop a rewarding and fulfilling career.
Recent statistics show that the STEM sector is growing rapidly, with more than 1 million STEM jobs created over the last seven years.
In fact the industry is growing at such a rate, that it has been identified there is a shortage of STEM skills in the UK.
This is prevalent when it comes to the representation of women in STEM, they make up just 26% of the workforce.
With engineering and technology graduates also having an 18% higher mean starting salary according to Engineering UK, then it is a field of opportunity for anyone with an interest in STEM subjects.
Here at North Kent College we provide a number of courses in the STEM field.
Our Engineering Department offers a variety of courses delivered in workshops, laboratories and classrooms that are designed to meet the highest industry standards. Our facilities include a machine shop with welding and fabrication facilities in addition to well-equipped electronic laboratories.
Computing and Games Development is a growing industry, and our courses in this area are perfect for anyone wanting to work in the games industry.
They are taught by staff who have gained their knowledge and experience first-hand from industry and academic backgrounds and will provide you with skills required to produce ideas, problem solve, develop technical skills, engage in professional practice and communicate professionally.
We also provide a number of courses in Business and Finance, including accounting courses.
