Today is International Animation Day. First held in 2002, the event is now observed in more than 50 countries with over 1,000 events taking place.
The day, 28 October, was chosen by Association Internationale du Film d’Animation (ASIFA) as it recognises the first public performance of projected moving images: Emile Reynaud’s Theatre Optique (Optical Theatre) in Paris, on 28 October 1892.
Theatre Optique was an animated moving picture system, that gave over 12,500 shows to more than half a million visitors at the Musee Grevin in Paris.
The very first show was Reynaud’s Pantomimes Lumineuses animation films, which included three cartoons.
Today animation is hugely important in film, TV and theatre and it is something we take very seriously here at North Kent College in our Creative Digital Design and Creative Media courses.
Our courses include 2D Animation and Concept Art and Animation, Concept Art and VFX and Creative Media – 3D Animation and VR.
You will learn from lecturers with industry experience and work in industry standard studios.
