Today (Friday 20 October) is the day when Chefs around the world celebrate, and are celebrated, as part of International Chefs Day.
The event was first held in 2004 and was the brainchild of the late chef Billy Gallagher, who served as the president and then honorary life president of the World Association of Chefs Societies.
Each year the event has a theme. This year it is “Growing Great Chefs”, with the event aiming to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love for cooking among children from all walks of life.
And that is quite apt, as encouraging aspiring young chefs to enter the profession is something we are very passionate about here at North Kent College.
We offer Hospitality and Catering courses at our Gravesend and Tonbridge campuses, which take place in top class facilities and are taught by specialists who have worked in the sector.
Not only will students benefit from industry standard kitchens and service areas, and highly equipped classrooms, they will also get a first hand taste of what it is like working as a chef thanks to our two fully functioning restaurants, that are open to the public.
The View Restaurant at our Tonbridge campus and The Gallery Restaurant at our Gravesend campus are staffed by all levels of our catering teams.
Trainee chefs prepare and cook the food, and front of house students help provide perfect service, all supervised by our experienced and professional catering team.
Professional industry placements are also part of the study programme.
