Two students looking at engineering model

Today (13 November) is National Engineering Day, an annual celebration to honour the contributions that engineers make to society.

The event was created by the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2019 to spread awareness and highlight the difference that engineers make to our future.

Every year the event has a theme, and the theme for 2024 is ‘engineering role models’, with those in the industry being asked the question ‘who inspired you to be who you are today?’

The Royal Academy of Engineering has represented five contemporary engineers in a specially commissioned artwork, with one recreated as an eye-catching sculpture, to inspire a new, more diverse generation of engineers.

You can see them at Prince Phillip House near Charing Cross and Piccadilly Circus tubes and on the National Engineering Day website.

North Kent College offers a number of vocational Engineering courses, with students benefitting from workshops, laboratories and classrooms designed to meet the highest industry standards.

Facilities include a machine shop with welding and fabrication facilities and computer suites with computer aided design (Autodesk) software, and all staff have a relevant background in the industry.

If you’re interested in working in the industry, you can find out more by visting the Engineering section on the North Kent College website.
