Today (5 October) is the day that the estimated 85million teachers worldwide are celebrated – it is World Teachers’ Day!
The event was established in 1994 and is now celebrated by over 100 countries worldwide.
Each year the event has a theme and for 2023 the theme is “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want”.
This is to tackle the shortage of people moving into teaching across the world. UNESCO estimates that there are 264 million children and youth out of school globally, and that the world will need over 69 million new teachers by 2030.
World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5 October. It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
If you are looking to move into teaching we offer a Foundation Degree in Education and Special Needs Education that can be completed with just one day a week of learning at our Tonbridge campus, across two years.
Students can then progress onto the one-year BA (Hons) Education Studies top up course, also at our Tonbridge campus.
From there, the world of teaching awaits whether that be with on-the-job training such as TeachFirst or KMT, or by completing a PGCE.
