Mental Health problems affect 1 in 4 of us, which is why we wanted to write a blog to encourage you to talk about mental health with others, as well as expand your knowledge about this topic.

Facts about mental health:

. In the UK 16 million people are dealing with a mental illness. These mental health illnesses include anxiety, depression, panic attacks, loneliness, obsessive-compulsive disorder and more.
. 75% of young people are not receiving treatment for their mental health problems.
. Over half of young people link mental illness with alienation and isolation and 55% believe they would lose friends because of their mental health illness.
. Only 6% of UK health research spending goes towards mental health, even though mental health disorders affect 1 in 4 of the population.

Social Media

Social Media is a great way to connect with people from all over the world and become a part of a community. A massive 91% of 16-24 year olds in the UK use social media on a regular bases. However, social media can be very damaging to your mental health, over the last 25 years there has been a 70% increase for young people who deal with anxiety and depression.

Even though there are many benefits to using social media, it is important to take a break from it. Having frequent breaks can boost your psychological well-being, allowing you to be more productive. It may be hard to snap out of the habit of going online to kill some time or needing an emotional lift, but stepping away from the internet can be very beneficial.
