Our Level 3 Motorsport course offers so many great opportunities to students both during and after the course – ex-student Sophie Bull shares her success with us – we’re so happy to hear how she has succeeded post North Kent College!
Sophie studied with at the Tonbridge campus between 2014-2016 on the nationally recognised Motorsport course and has recently been named Number 1 Race Mechanic at West Surrey Racing Ltd.
West Surrey Racing is a UK-based BTCC BMW motorsport team run by New Zealander Dick Bennetts, they also run the official BMW UK British Touring Car Championship race cars.
Since joining West Surrey Racing, Sophie has shared various job openings with other North Kent College students. Michael White is a second year Motorsport student who is currently working part-time for West Surrey Racing alongside studying for his Motorsport qualification.
Michael said “ I went into this work placement hoping to learn more about the industry and Motorsport at a higher level, and I left the work placement having learnt all of this and more and have been offered a job as a number 3 technician. It’s amazing how far I have come with North Kent College’s help and Sophie’s recommendation”
Other success stories on the Motorsport course come in the form of two leading ladies - In September we welcomed back to the UK, Cleo Collins and Felicity Bonynge from Level 3 Motorsport. They had been working the Summer as technicians travelling across Europe with the W Series, which is an all-Female race series, based on current F4 race cars and the W series has been supporting all the European and certain other F1 races this year. They finished off the year at Circuit of The Americas in Austin Texas.
Motorsport lecturer, Nick Aldridge added “The students come and study what they enjoy, it’s so hands on. Then they achieve and excel at what they do within industry and get to work with employers, travel and so…- what’s not to like, the world is their oyster!”
