With the heat rising once again as we enter the summer, we look at five possible careers paths to take as temperatures increase…
Last year was a year of firsts as far as UK temperatures were concerned.
2022 was the UK’s hottest on record, with the average annual temperature exceeding 10C for the first time and the 40C mark finally being broken.
Whereas such warm temperatures were previously unheard of, scientists at the Met Office are now suggesting we could expect similar summers every three to four years.
With the heat rising once again as we enter the summer, we look at five possible careers paths to take as temperatures increase…
Air Conditioning Engineer or Refrigeration Installer
For many years air conditioning in UK has been incredibly rare. In fact, a 2008 survey by Mintel suggested just 0.5% of UK homes had air conditioning.
By 2021 a report by Britain’s Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy suggested this figure had risen to 5%.
Whatever the figure, the demand for air conditioning both at home and in workplaces in the UK is acting much like temperature trends, it is on the rise.
For that reason, a career as an air conditioning or refrigeration engineer or technician is well worth considering. The courses are offered at our Gravesend Campus.

Plumbing and Heating Engineer
Extreme weather, whether that be in the depths of winter or the height of summer, often means lots of demand for plumbing and heating engineers.
When temperatures get very hot, it can cause metal pipes to expand, which results in cracks and water leaks.
The UV rays beating down on gutters can have a similar effect and cause them to degrade.
We offer a variety of courses related to plumbing and building services at our Gravesend and Tonbridge campuses.

Music Festival Coordinator
Whether it be down to warmer and slightly more reliable summer weather, or just a growing appetite amongst the UK population for new music, the UK music festival scene has been growing for a while now.
Figures released by Statista showed that 5.9million people attended music festivals in 2019, compared to just 2.79million in 2012.
To back this up, Marketing Intelligence Agency Mintel estimates that by 2026, the UK music and festival industry will be worth a record high of £3.2billion.
This makes event management in general a great area to get into when leaving education.
It can lead to several career paths including event management and coordination, corporate hospitality, hotel management and much more.

Tour Guide or Hotel Manager
Tourism is the fastest growing industry in Britain and is expected to increase by 3.8% a year until 2025, accounting for 10% of all jobs.
By this pointed it is estimated the tourist industry will be worth over £250billion.
London in particular is a huge tourist draw, attracting eight times the number of visitors of that of the second most popular city in the UK, Edinburgh.
And now to its selection of world class museums and galleries and mix of history and heritage, it can add more consistent weather!
A travel or tourism qualification can offer a number of opportunities including tour guides, hotel management, cabin crew, and even working as a representative on exotic, far flung holiday resorts.
