How to get the best out of your domestic garden machinery

This short course is delivered at our Greenwich site on Shooters Hill by Ian the Head Gardener at Hadlow college. As well as managing the extensive gardens at Hadlow Ian has worked in many prestigious parks and gardens including some in London. This is an opportunity to find out how we use machinery to maintain our gardens, including lots of small domestic tools / machinery including

Petrol lawn mowers – how to use safely, what checks should be carried out before you use the machinery. How to maintain the machinery after each cut and also after longer periods of time. Learn how to use the machines correctly and the importance of adjusting the machine correctly to suit your specific lawn types. We will also be looking at battery / cordless lawn mowers.

In addition to this you will also look at safe use of strimmers, again the essential maintenance checks that can be carried out at home before and after use. How to ensure safe use when working with such machinery. We will discuss both petrol and battery use strimmers.

Hedge cutters can save time compared to hand tools, but like a lawn mower and strimmer needs to be well maintained and used safely. Learn the tricks of the trade and how we use hedge cutters to produce a great looking hedge.

Ian is LANTRA trained and has trained many professional gardeners and horticulturists over the years.
