media student behind camera

Equivalent to 3 A Levels, a total of 72-168 UCAS points, depending on grades achieved. This qualification teaches you 'real world' professional production pipelines with an emphasis on attracting audiences and consumers to the content you create. This course will suit you if you are interested in a career in film and TV or Digital Journalism and want to progress to an industry level. You will be required to fully understand and follow the codes and conventions of different media products in order to design, organise and create your own. The focus of this course is to give you hands on experience following industry-standard production processes, as well as technical and creative skills. You will plan, film and edit a range of productions - this could include TV adverts, music videos, film trailers, documentaries, short films, campaign videos and more. You will also be encouraged to create narratives that show your individual perspective through storytelling and creative ideas. The Digital Journalism aspect will help you develop skills and opportunities to those looking to be content providers in radio, vlogging, blogging and more traditional areas of journalism and creative writing. Whilst it is beneficial to have a media qualification, this is not essential, as long as you have passion and desire to explore the diverse subject of TV and film. However, you should demonstrate prior experience, for example through making your own videos as a hobby or having done work experience in a media environment. At the end of each year, you will complete a final project where you will be able to work on any type of media project within Creative Media giving you a high level of autonomy from idea inception to the final presentation. Students in past years have submitted films to film festivals, made documentaries and developed their own digital channels.
