This programme offers the student the opportunity to develop their hairdressing skills and/or get recognition for skills used on a day to day basis in the salon.
The qualification is constructed of a number of units including Monitoring and Controlling safe working practices, Promotion of services and products alongside practical skill development in cutting, colouring techniques, Colour correction techniques, long hair and perming. There is a choice of optional units that can be taken and you will be guided by your lecturer when making your selection. Students will also work as a team and stage an event as part of the programme. This programme also focuses on developing supervisory skills to enable students to pursue the next stage of their career.

Entry Requirements
Students will need a current Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing or 5 years of current salon experience as a working stylist.
All students will be required to demonstrate hairdressing skills as part of the interview process. Students wishing to enrol on the Full Time course will need to have either paid employment or voluntary employment working with clients in a hairdressing salon for a minimum of 1 day per week.
As well as a satisfactory school report to include good attendance and behaviour. Completion of GCSE’s. English & Maths Grade 4 or above or Level 2 Functional Skills . Your enrolment is also subject to a successful interview, written task and completion of a practical skills assessment.

What progression options will I have?
Successful students will be able to use this qualification as a starting base for their career development. Depending on experience you could now apply to a wider range of employment opportunities within the Hairdressing industry. As well as continuing to work as a Stylist you may choose to specialise in either cutting or colouring, become a salon owner, work for product manufacturers and suppliers as a technician, become a salon trainer or the first steps to being a college lecturer. You may also choose to broaden your skills and enrol on programmes from the Beauty Therapy industry.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is continuous throughout the course. You will be assessed using a variety of methods including: observation, oral questioning, written questioning, online exams and assignment work.
