Students enrolling on this programme will spend a minimum of 3 sessions a week in our modern well equipped hairdressing salons. You will be taught by vocational lecturers who have worked, or are currently working, in the hairdressing industry they therefore have a wide and current experience of the industries needs and trends. Salon skills are supported by underpinning theory knowledge.
The Diploma in Hairdressing has a number of mandatory units including health and safety, consultation, shampooing and conditioning, cutting, colouring and styling hair. It also has a number of optional units for you to choose from. Your lecturer will guide you when making this choice. Your initial training is carried out on blocks and group members before progressing onto family, friends and paying clients. You need to be prepared to work a late evening mirroring the requirements of industry.
You will be expected to behave in a highly professional manner at all times while in the salons and surrounding public areas. You will wear a uniform and will need to bring your hairdressing equipment to all salon sessions.
Functional skills in English and Maths are taught alongside the vocational skills. This is an important aspect of your programme and will help to prepare you for the next level of qualification and working in the industry It is recommended that you find part time work or voluntary work in the hairdressing industry to support your college training.

Entry Requirements
A genuine interest in the hairdressing industry. A satisfactory school report to include good attendance and behaviour. Completion of GCSE’s. English & Maths Grade 4 or above or Level 2 Functional Skills . Your enrolment is also subject to a successful interview, written task and completion of a practical skills assessment.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is continuous throughout the course. You will be assessed using a variety of methods including: observation, oral questioning, written questioning, online exams and assignment work.
