Student taking a picture

The UAL Level 4 Photography programme at North Kent College offers students the opportunity to develop their skills and understanding of photography practice within a broad range of vocational and academic contexts, where practical skills and lens-based image making are underpinned by contextual & historical studies. You’ll cover aspects that include studio practice, professional lighting, portraiture, styling, darkroom practice, fine art photographic printing and moving image. Students will acquire the technical and practical skills required to work as a freelance photographer or to gain a position in the creative industries such as a studio practitioner, professional re-toucher, printer, curator, or stylist, and those wishing to proceed onto a BA (Hons) programme will be well prepared. Some students may even be able to enter directly onto year 2 of that programme. You will gain an awareness of contemporary practice and a developed portfolio. Professional practice and project management skills are encouraged through independent live work and our exciting group exhibitions held each year. Our Study Programme includes opportunities for you to develop your English and Maths skills as required. You may be expected to complete either functional skills or GCSE qualifications as part of your course depending on your GCSE results.
