The Musical Theatre course is a unique two-year training programme here at The Miskin Theatre.

Musical Theatre performers will collaborate closely with those on other Miskin Theatre programmes and work in a highly disciplined environment to learn the skills and discipline that their craft demands.

The programme will encourage you to gain a broad variety of skills, developing your dance technique, acting and singing musical theatre performance skills, culminating in performances at the in-house Miskin Theatre and beyond.

You will participate in ballet, contemporary, choreography, jazz and tap classes alongside complementary musical theatre workshops developing your ability to be a performer that can combine your acting, dance and singing skills leading to a variety of performance opportunities.

The training is designed to challenge each performer to maximise their potential. You will also develop self-awareness and personal development which will not only teach you essential skills for your chosen pathway, but also core transferrable life-skills.

As part of this programme you may be able to complete ISTD Classical Ballet, Modern Theatre Dance and Tap examinations (additional costs apply).

Equivalent to 3 A Levels, a total of 72-168 UCAS points, depending on grades achieved).

The Miskin experience will support you in becoming a well-trained, clear-thinking performer ready to take your first steps into the industry. You will also develop the skills that all employers are looking for, including teamwork, self-confidence, communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to meet targets.

  • What qualification will I gain?

    UAL L3 Extended Diploma in Performing & Production Arts

  • Entry Requirements

    Minimum of four GCSEs grade 4 - 9 including English and preferably maths and one creative subject. Or an equivalent Level 2 Qualification in Performing Arts at merit or above.

    You will need a positive school report/recommendation/reference from your school/tutor.

    You will be required to attend an audition and an interview where you will take part in both a practical dance and acting workshops on the day. You will also be asked to perform a solo dance piece and song, in a style of you chose. These pieces should be 1-2 minutes in length. The outcome of your audition/interview will be assessed by the panel, and they will let you know if you have been successful

  • What progression options will I have?

    Once you have completed the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts you could progress onto University, Employment, an Apprenticeship or Dance College.

  • What costs are involved?

    Tuition Fees: 16-18 - free 19+ Advanced Learning Loan - £7395 Exam and Registration Fees (payable by all aged 19 and over): £220 This course may also attract additional costs, for example, kit, uniform or books, that all students will be required to pay.   • How will I be assessed?

    All of your work will follow a vocational scenario or context that simulates a real-world situation. This course is 100% coursework. You will present your work in a range of formats. You will be assessed on your research, development and experimentation and final outcomes and you will be encouraged to develop your work and professional practice through evaluation and self-reflection. All units will be graded against the Assessment Objectives set by UAL, with Unit 12 in year 2 being graded either a Pass, Merit or Distinction, which will become your overall grade for the Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts.
