Selected students from Dance and Musical Theatre at our Dartford Campus took part in a charity night which is held annually at the Wilmington Masonic centre.
After lecturer Maria Mazzone suggested that 11 students take part in the event, she used her connections in the centre to hold a Musical Theatre Evening. For the performances, sections were taken from the summer show 'From The Top' and 'Revue'. This was an opportunity for the students to work in a corporate-style environment and get a feel for a different type of industry-related work. The event was in aid of the Royal British Legion and allowed the students to experience the industry as they will once graduating North Kent College.
To prepare for the event, rehearsals were scheduled within half term by lecturers Maria Mazzone and Sam Linscott. They guided the Musical Theatre students and made the performance immersive with the students interacting with guests throughout dinner and within the temple. There was incredible feedback from the performance and an opportunity has arisen for it to be an annual event with a donation made to the department.
Maria Mazzone, Lecturer in Dance, said ‘The students had an incredible opportunity to perform in a variety show in aid of The Royal British Legion.’
She continued ‘The students demonstrated excellent professionalism and were able to adapt quickly to their performance environment. They did well to engage their audience on a face-to-face level which is completely different to what they are used to in the theatre.’
