North Kent College Art, Photography and Fashions students recent project ‘Transitions’ was showcased at The St Georges Art Centre in Gravesend after Photography Lecturer Rachel Letchford-Beg spotted the opportunity and couldn’t let her students miss out.
The Centre is a new exhibition and arts space in the heart of Gravesend developed and run by Gravesham Borough Council in line with the Cultural Strategy adopted in 2020.
The students are currently working on a youth led art programme called ‘This must be the place’ which helps explore and shape the new Ebbsfleet Garden City with their current Transitions Project.
The programme is a pioneering three-year placemaking programme of research, artists residencies, and co-commissions created collaboratively with young people from Ebbsfleet. Working with artists and a wide range of partners, young people aged 16-25 will co-lead the programme, exploring and shaping Ebbsfleet as it is built.
The Exhibition gave students the chance to display and showcase their ‘Transitions’ project in a gallery environment open for the public to view. The Exhibition featured work from all levels of Photography, Fashion and Art students, work ranging from Photobooks, Digital displays, tote bags, 3D artwork and so much more. A private viewing was held allowing students to talk to members of the public about their work and show of their skill sets.
Tom Legge Head of Art, Fashion and Photography, said “We had some great feedback from the public on this exhibition and it was fantastic to see all the students work together in a professional setting.”
Jamie Jarman Extended Diploma in Art and Design mentioned, “It was amazing to see my work on display in the gallery and really got us excited to have this opportunity.”
The Exhibition has now been moved and is located in the Peter Blake Gallery, Dartford until the 21st April. Make sure to visit or view our collection of Art courses here.
