North Kent College Level 3, Fashion students, recently visited AllSaints head offices in London, Shoreditch for a tour around the facilities and insightful talks from the Design and Atelier teams to discuss how the industry works.
AllSaints is a British fashion retailer operating 255 stores in 2 countries, selling womenswear, menswear, shoes, and accessories. Founded in 1994, the retailer has gradually expanded into department stores and standalone stores.
Fiona McCullan, Lecturer in Fashion, liaised with her contacts from AllSaints in which they organised and hosted the industry trip. The visit provided students with an insight to the fashion industry in real life terms seeing how many aspects went into the business.
Once on site, the group visited multiple departments allowing them to see how much effort goes into making a single product. Whilst speaking to staff members, students commented how helpful it was to hear from professionals how diverse the industry is and learn the different routes and progression staff members took to get to their role, showing the students what options are available.
Whilst on tour students viewed the photography studio, the design room, IT, the tech department and the Atelier department.
Fiona McCullan, went on to say “The trip was very successful; the students were given the opportunity to tour the entire head office seeing how many departments work together to make everything happen! They were also given individual talks with the design & atelier team. We have initiated conversations with AllSaints around potential work experience, mini projects and future trips.”
