Bright Beginnings Gravesend Nursery’s colourful celebration of inclusivity and diversity saw it crowned Best Float at the Northfleet Carnival on Saturday.
The nursery chose the theme of ‘The Greatest Showman’ for its float, with staff and children learning Makaton to sign the popular song from the show, ‘This Is Me’.
Amongst stiff competition from around 20 floats, Bright Beginnings were selected as the best float and were presented with a trophy from the Mayor of Gravesend, Cllr Gurdip Ram Bungar.
Lynne Tomlinson, Bright Beginnings Nursery Manager, was delighted with the award saying: “We chose ‘The Greatest Showman’ as the theme for our float as we are proud to embrace inclusivity and diversity in our nursery.
“We thought the best way to demonstrate this was by staff and children learning Makaton so they could sign to ‘This Is Me’, a song about standing up for yourself and being proud of who you are.
“Everyone put in a lot of time to learn the song, and to decorate the float and get dressed up. It was a truly wonderful day, and to be named Best Float was the icing on the cake!”
