North Kent College students held a charity event recently to raise money for a cause close to their hearts.
Level 2 Early Years students held the fundraising event and cake sale to support and raise awareness for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
A variety of bakes and sweet treats were sold, with almost £200 raised in total for the charity.
The charity was chosen as one of the Early Years students, Amelia Price, has a hearing dog. Her cocker spaniel Scamp is a regular sight around the Tonbridge campus!
Katie Buckingham, Lecturer in Early Years, was delighted with the event: “It has been heartening to get involved with a charity that is close to the hearts of the Level 2 Early Years group, and to raise awareness for Hearing Dogs, whilst also giving Amelia the opportunity to share her journey with Scamp and the difference he has made to her life, has been inspirational!
“To be able to raise some money at the same time, so that other young people like Amelia, can also receive an assistant dog to grow in confidence, and feel less isolated in society has been amazing.”
If you have a passion to work with children, then an Early Year’s course is the perfect place to start. It can lead to a variety of careers from a nursery nurse to a primary school teacher and more.
At North Kent College we offer Early Years courses at both our Dartford and Tonbridge campuses. The courses are taught by industry professionals and include real life work placements to give students hands on professional training.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People was founded in 1982, with one of its co-founders being Dr Bruce Fogle, father of the broadcaster, writer and adventurer Ben Fogle.
The charity trains dogs to alert deaf people to a variety of sounds and there are currently around 1,000 hearing dog partnerships across the UK.
