Hermione Burns, current Level 3 Extended diploma 79 Sports Mentoring student at North Kent College, placed silver in the recent British Shooting Shotgun Series Grand Final at the East Yorkshire Shooting Ground. This was the last competition of the season, and the British Champion 2022 Trophy was up for grabs!
She started clay pigeon shooting at her local club Dartford Clay Shooting Ground from the age of eight, after being introduced to the sport by her Grandad. In her sporting career Hermione has achieved Gold in the Lady Junior's British Open Grand Prix, setting the British record with the Junior Women's team at the Junior World Cup in Germany and winning Gold in the Lady Junior's Malaga Grand Prix International.
The Grand Final involved six junior ladies aged 16-20 and took place over a weekend. Hermione went into the semi-finals on peg six and managed to shoot enough to get through to the main finals with a sudden death shoot out. Fortunately, she got into the main final and then battled her way into the gold medal match. The result of the match saw Hermione take the silver medal after a brilliant display of talent - she missed the gold medal by a mere two targets.
Hermione Burns said, “My end goal is to achieve an Olympics gold medal with the support of my role model and coach, Steve Scott. He is an Olympic Trap shooter who has won a bronze medal at the Olympics. I aspire to be like him and to win an Olympic medal.”
