A visitor with a difference has been having a positive impact on North Kent College students over the past few weeks – Darwyn, the College’s new Therapy Dog!
Darwyn is a German Shepherd who visits the Tonbridge and Hadlow campuses twice a month and his visits are much looked forward to by staff and students alike.
Therapy dogs are an emotional support animal that can help with improving human health and wellbeing, and studies have shown that they can reduce stress, improve your mood, and even lessen social anxiety.
Students can just drop into the College’s Wellbeing Hub to see Darwyn, and tutors can also book Darwyn in to visit their classes should they wish during the time he is here.
This is just one of a number of measures the College takes to help students transition to a new part of their life, taking on the greater independence and responsibility college life offers.
The College also provides a wide range of assistance to support students, including a professional and confidential counselling service, with dedicated Mental Health and Counselling Coordinators forming part of our Welfare and Safeguarding Team.
