North Kent College students devised their own coaching sessions recently as part of a nationwide school initiative aiming at encouraging more young people to take up football.
The Sports Coaching and Performance students took part in the Monster Kickabout project, run by Sports Direct and Nike, and put on their own activities with the aid of the Monster Kickabout coaches.
Over 5,000 schools and colleges across the UK and Ireland have benefited from the Monster Kickabout sessions, which returned for a one-off event in May to celebrate Euro 2024 and support Youth Sport Trust’s National School Sports Week.
Ten North Kent College students took part, and each learner was given Nike kit to wear, including a t-shirt, shorts and trainers, which they got to keep, in addition to an official Premier League Football worth £120!
John Mullins, Head of Curriculum for Sports Coaching & Performance, said: “This was a great experience for our students to work with the Nike coaches in a fun and inclusive setting and to put into practice some of what they have been learning. I know they all thoroughly enjoyed it.”
North Kent College’s Sports Coaching and Performance courses give students access to top class facilities, including a large multi-purpose sports hall, three sports fields, and access to a strength and conditioning room and a fitness suite.
