Over 30,000 people attended the event, and the purpose was to give students the experience of a global trade show which is attended by the fashion industry, enable them to make contacts and allow them to see the new innovations in the fashion industry.
The trip came about as a great enrichment opportunity for the students as they were able to not only visit the show but also visit some important shops in Paris. These included Printemps, Galeries Lafayette , the designer boutiques and the Chanel original shop and showroom on the Rue Cambon where Chanel held her fashion shows. These opportunities gave the students fantastic experience and preparations for upcoming assignments. They were also able to visit Paris landmarks including The Palais Galliera and the Eiffel Tower.
Marie McGoven, Head of Curriculum (Design, MGA, Fashion & Photography), said “the experience of seeing couture fashion up close in Paris, alongside the museums and watching the Parisians and how they dress is always inspiring and exciting; it broadens the horizons of fashion ideas and the students found the trip highly inspirational.”
Nicola Pacquette, Lecturer in Fashion, said, “As fashion creatives it is imperative that students are exposed to many different inspirational opportunities. This could be a visit to an exhibition, searching for fabrics or taking inspiration from clothing collections. The trip to Paris was a fantastic opportunity for our fashion students to visit all of this overseas as well as attending Premiere Vision. To experience a trade exhibition where the whole of the fashion industry take inspiration from for future development is imperative to their education.”
