Radio presenter Matt Soper (pictured above) visited North Kent College’s Dartford campus recently to kick off an exciting training partnership between the College and Made in Kent Radio.
The collaboration will give media students at the College the chance to hone a range of skills and is designed to equip them with everything they need for employment in the industry in the future.
Matt, whose resume includes time working for Disney and Heart FM, talked to students about the experience they could gain as part of the training, which will cover everything from radio presenting to social media, and from production to technical skills.
Grahame Gladin, Lecturer in Media at North Kent College, says: “It was great having Matt introduce himself and the Made in Kent scheme to our trainees. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to gain industry experience and boost their portfolios to support their career ambitions.”
Matt Soper, adds: “We are very excited to be working with North Kent College as our primary sponsor and the upcoming work with their students. This is a fantastic opportunity to enable the College media students to experience a real work environment within radio. We believe this opportunity will give inspiration and passion to young people within the industry and are excited for the next steps we are about to embark upon with North Kent College.”
Made in Kent Radio broadcasts from a Bluewater studio to almost 80,000 listeners across the whole of Kent. It was set up by Matt, who also presents the Breakfast Show, in 2020.
North Kent College will be the main sponsor for the station’s Media Academy, which offers workshops giving practical media training and insights into the media industry for anyone aged 8 to 25. North Kent College Media students will have exclusive access to the training as part of the partnership.
North Kent College offers a number of Media courses at its Tonbridge and Dartford campuses.
The courses cover all aspects of the industry, ranging from presenting, radio, journalism and creative writing to crew and production roles such as a filmmaker, director, or camera operator. It also has its own radio studio, based at the Dartford campus.
