North Kent College construction students were given a safety lesson from Britain’s biggest professional power tool manufacturer recently.
Carpentry and Joinery and Multi-Skills students from the College’s Gravesend and Hadlow campuses benefitted from Makita Tools, Makita Be Safe Construction Course, a City and Guild qualification that focuses on the correct and safe use of electrical power tools.
The students also had the opportunity to learn more about Makita’s battery-operated power tools, including an SDS drill, an impact driver, a circular saw, a random orbital sander and a selection of combination drills and reciprocating saws, and to test them out.
Dan Hopkins, Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery at North Kent College, said: “Makita is a very good manufacturer of power tools, one of the best on the market. I find it is crucial at this stage in our students’ career that they are familiar with different brands and aware of the different tools available in the industry. As it may be a costly mistake if they make the wrong decision when buying tools… buy nice or buy twice.
“Additionally, it was an added benefit that they also delivered the Be Safe Construction course, that gives our students a recognised qualification accredited by City and Guilds.”
