North Kent College construction students got an insight into what it is like to work in the industry when two of the sector’s big employers paid them a visit.
Representatives of Axminster Tools and STABILA came in to talk to Carpentry and Joinery students based at the College’s Gravesend and Hadlow campuses recently.
Axminster Tools demonstrated a range of methods to sharpen chisels and discussed the important of maintaining sharp tools, whilst STABILA showcased a selection of different spirit levels, and how they vary depending on the trade they are used for.
Both also told students more about their respective companies and what they have to offer.
Dan Hopkins, Lecturer for Carpentry at North Kent College, said: “Technology is always evolving, new tools are always coming into circulation. And sometimes it can be difficult to keep up, unless you are fortunate to attend trade fairs. So, I asked if both Axminster and STABILA to come in to introduce their companies, display what they had to offer and express their professional experience in what tools are popular right now. It also gave a chance for the students to get a feel for their products and ask questions.”
