This year the Sports Department at North Kent College hosted the very first Sports Careers Fair for students across the College. The fair took place in the Osterberg Sports Hall at our Dartford Campus in February.
The event was organised by John Mullins Head of Curriculum, Performance and Sports Coaching to give opportunities for students to meet employers, ask questions, arrange interviews, apply for vacancies and also communicate with training providers regarding apprenticeships and universities for higher education options/opportunities.
Students were lucky to experience a variety of employers such as local Sports businesses including Sportacus Ltd, Canterbury Christ Church University, Academy1 Group, Charlton Athletic Community Trust, KBT Martial Arts Academy, London Fire Brigade, We Make Footballers and Energie Fitness. The purpose of the event was to host a specific event for sports students and open to other students from other areas who are interested in a career within the Sport sector.
The event was a great success, students were able to visit all of the stalls, talk to the stallholders and make connections that potentially could lead to employment and training or higher education opportunities.
John Mullins said, "This is the first time we have organised and held a careers fair for our sports students and it was great to hear students and stallholders enjoyed the event and were complimentary about the purpose of the event.”
He continued, “The feedback from all stallholders was positive with regards to the facilities, the opportunity to network with each other and most importantly about how polite and engaged the students were. They also indicated that they would definitely return for the next Sports Careers Fair and would also be interested in attending the NKC Careers Fair on the 23rd March.”
