Hair and beauty students at North Kent College have been enhancing their skills over the past few weeks thanks to a series of events, workshops and visits to the Department.
Last month, Level 2 Media Makeup students created make-up designs inspired by Random Acts of Kindness Week which ran from 11 to 17 February.
Learners used art and colour to express the visual of kindness and how it can be represented through an image. They were also encouraged to encapsulate kindness with quotes relevant to the designs they created, with Isabella Chance’s saying of her star themed style, “every act of kindness sparkles like a star”.
On 28 February, Level 1 Hair and Beauty and Level 2 Beauty Therapy students were visited by a trainer from Eve Taylor beauty for a live facial demonstration and a thorough explanation of a series of products. Students also had to complete online Eve Taylor training, for which they all achieved a certificate of completion.
Level 1 Hair and Beauty students have also been getting wedding ready recently by working on bridal mood boards, and hair and makeup techniques.
Nelia Toscano Felicio, Lecturer in Beauty Therapy, was keen to express the importance of acts of kindness, saying: “I believe that kindness and compassionate have never been more important. Acts of kindness can make the world a happier and better place for everyone.
“They can boost feelings of confidence, being in control, happiness and optimism. They may also encourage others to repeat the good deeds they've experienced themselves, contributing to a more positive behaviour for students.”
North Kent College offers a number of courses related to hair, beauty and makeup across its Tonbridge, Dartford and Gravesend campuses.
Beauty Therapy courses cover hair and beauty, spa therapy, hair and media make-up, theatrical make-up and more. Students are able to gain practical hands-on professional experience thanks to onsite commercial salons, spa and make-up studios that are open to the public.
The College is partnered with the Lee Stafford Education Foundation across all three campuses at Dartford, Tonbridge and Gravesend, and offers a range of hairdressing and barbering courses.
Students are taught all the skills to master what Lee Stafford calls the ‘Michelin standard’ of hairdressing and learn in a state-of-the-art hairdressing salon, with all the latest equipment and products, fully supported by a team of experienced hairdressers and barbers.
A series of Make-Up Artistry courses are also offered, including Hair and Media Make-up and Theatrical Make-Up with students able to gain hands-on professional experience with real clients in onsite commercial salons, spa & make-up studio.
