To celebrate Thank a Teacher Day, the Travel and Tourism team at North Kent College nominated Senior Learning Support Assistant, Sarah Benns, for the 2022 Award for Teaching Assistant of the Year.
Thank A Teacher Day celebrates teachers and support staff from schools and colleges across the country. The 2022 Award for Teaching Assistant of the Year is presented by The Pearson National Teaching Awards and celebrates excellent teachers in the primary, secondary and FE sectors across the UK. Each nominee receives a personalised certificate and handwritten note from the President, Michael Morpurgo.
Assistant Principal, James Butterfill, along with Sarah’s student, JJ presented her with the nomination from the Travel and Tourism team. James said “Sarah has done a spectacular job supporting both students and tutors over the years.”
JJ, Sarah’s student commented “Thank you for all the help you have given me over the past year, it’s meant so much.”
Amanda Ball, Head of Travel and Tourism, said “We simply couldn’t run our curriculum area without you, you do so much for us and the students, truly deserved nomination – well done!”.
Sarah Biggs, Support and Inclusion Coordinator, remarked “I have worked with Sarah for 15 years and I have never met a more caring LSA. She has worked with learners with a range of learning differences and disabilities, but she always treats them all as individuals, getting to understand what helps motivate them, what makes them anxious, what difficulties they may be dealing with outside of college. She does all this with sensitivity, understanding and a great sense of humour.”
